School Community Council

Governance Through Partnership

At CS Lewis Academy, the School Community Council (SCC) serves as the school’s Board of Trustees. In accordance with Utah law and the school’s governing policies, the SCC is composed of a majority plus two parent representatives, along with members of the community and school staff. The SCC encourages open communication and collaboration among parents, employees, administrators, and community stakeholders, and promotes meaningful involvement in establishing and implementing educational goals for students.

The School Community Council (SCC) plays an important role in partnering in the education of children alongside the school, its staff, faculty, and the broader community. The SCC provides a cooperative means of improving educational programs, school conditions, and student outcomes. Responsibilities and duties of the SCC, as authorized under Utah law and applicable charter school governance requirements, include:

  • Developing and reviewing the School Improvement Plan (SIP)
  • Developing and overseeing the School LAND Trust Program
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of the school’s professional development plan
  • Advising and making recommendations regarding school programs, policies, and issues affecting the educational environment for students
  • Developing and supporting a reading achievement plan

Parents and guardians who are interested in serving on the SCC/Board of Trustees are encouraged to participate in the nomination and election process as positions become available. The Academy values meaningful parent and community involvement and welcomes individuals who are committed to supporting the school’s mission, governance, and student success.
